Super-typhoons “ TINO” and “UWAN” Disaster Assistance Updates!!

On 2 November, Typhoon Kalmaegi (Tino) brought severe flooding and flash floods across the Visayas, leaving more than 210 people dead and over 100 missing. A week later, on 9 November, Super Typhoon Fung-Wong (Uwan) made landfall in Aurora with winds reaching 185 km/h, affecting 13 of the country’s 18 regions.
In the aftermath of this widespread destruction, our pastors and local coordinators in Cebu, Leyte, Samar and Dumaguete City sent urgent requests for relief/disaster emergency assistance.
Pastors Jungie Ramirez and Chris Tawan (HFCF coordinators in Cebu) reported:
More than 50 church families are affected and 20 of them have their houses destroyed.
We need used clothing, water and rice…. Asking for your prayers!
Total blackout now….As of now we cannot move or have no mobility,
since all our transports were damaged and no vehicle can be used right now,
plus we are in the evacuation center this time.
In response to their urgent pleas, we immediately sent out emergency funds for Phase 1 of the project: distribution of relief assistance (10-kilo rice bags per family) but the need is so overwhelming and so widespread that we can only reach a few dozen of families.
IDES (International Disaster Emergency Assistance, IN) once again graciously provided a much-needed grant so we can provide more assistance to families affected by these two destructive typhoons. We sent additional funds to provide more relief assistance 10-kilo rice bags to more families in other areas. Then we started Phase 2 (repairs/rebuilding) projects to repair badly damaged church buildings and pastoral houses. Houses of our brethren also started to be repaired
As of Dec. 13, this is a summary of what God has done through the “HFCF/IDES TINO and UWAN Disaster Assistance project” in the past 6 weeks:
- 563 families received disaster relief grocery bags/10-kilo rice packs
- 11 church buildings repaired
- 22 houses rebuilt/repaired
GLORY BE TO GOD FOR HIS PROVISIONS!!
Please continue to pray for the thousands of families who have suffered severe losses, for our local congregations that are starting to recover and our volunteers, staff and pastors/workers who are assisting in this effort. So much still need to be done!
THANK YOU FOR YOUR LOVING SUPPORT!!
